Summer can be rough on our feline friends. Fluffy has a fur coat on, and she can’t cool off by panting, the way Fido can. One way to keep your little buddy content on sweltering days is to offer her a cold snack. A La Porte, TX vet lists some great ones below.
Water
First and foremost, make sure your furball always has plenty of cold water. Many cats prefer to drink running water. You may want to offer your kitty a fountain, and see if she likes it.
Ice
Drop an ice cube or two into Fluffy’s bowl when it’s scorching hot. You may also want to offer her one to lick. Don’t be surprised if your kitty decides to play ‘pawkey’ with it. Broth

Frozen Dinner
Get a canned food that has a high moisture content, and add water or broth to it to thin it out a bit. Put small amounts into ice cube trays and freeze it overnight.
Kitty Sno Cone
Get some shaved ice, and pour tuna and tuna water over it. You can also use organic baby food or gravy. Choose a brand that does not contain garlic, onions, scallions, or chives.
Cat Milk
You can find milk specifically made for kitties in many pet stores. Keep some in the fridge for Fluffy, and give her a chilled bowl on occasion.
Sundae
While regular ice cream isn’t good for cats, you can make Fluffy her own version. Plain, fat-free yogurt is safe for kitties. You can add tuna, kibble, parsley, shredded chicken, or even a bit of shrimp to customize it and score yourself some extra purrs.
Cold Food
Another option is to just keep some of your pet’s canned food in the fridge. Not all kitties want their food cold, but it won’t hurt to try!
