Do you keep your cat indoors? Good for you! Fluffy is both safer and healthier staying in. However, that doesn’t mean she won’t enjoy a taste of nature. One way to make your place absolutely purrfect for your feline friend is by making a kitty garden. A La Porte, TX vet offers some tips on this below.
Choosing The Spot
There’s really no right or wrong spot for Fluffy’s garden. We do recommend keeping cats safe and sound indoors. However, if you have a fenced yard, you may choose to let your pet enjoy it. Just make sure your kitty can’t get over the fence. You can also use an enclosed porch or patio, a sunroom, or a bright corner. If you want to go all-out, build your feline overlord her own enclosure.
Plants
First and foremost, you’ll need to add some plants. These aren’t just for Fluffy: they will also make your place look nice and filter the air. Mixing and matching different types and sizes of plants will give you a great aesthetic. For potted trees, you can use Rubber trees, Money trees, Areca palms, or Ponytail palms. For green plants, Boston ferns, Spider plants, Snake plants, Prayer plants, and Wandering Jew plants are all good options. You can add a pop of color with African violets or many orchids. If you like cooking, grow some fresh herbs, such as thyme, mint, and basil. Just take care to stick with things that are safe for kitties. Check the ASPCA site here for more information on safe and unsafe plants.
Entertainment
Don’t forget to add some toys for Fluffy! For extra purrs, put a birdfeeder in her line of sight.
Kitty Furniture
You’ll need to add a few pieces for Fluffy to look adorable on. Cat towers are great for this, as they are multi-purrpose options, providing kitties with lounging spots, nail care stations, and lookout points. Your furball will also appreciate things like beds and boxes. One option is to take an old litterbox or storage container and plant cat grass in it. This will give Fluffy her own little lawn!
Water
Did you know that many cats prefer running water? Add a kitty fountain for your feline pal. Instant purr!
